Fridays
4
pm – 6pm ET
Da’Poet Eris comes to
Norfolk by way of native Pittsburgh, Pa but has nothing but love for the 757 the
last six years; a creative writing major at ODU, he has been holding it down on
the spoken word scene for those six years. Having worked with the likes of God
Child, Hamzaa, Queen Sheeba, and 13 at Oya Exclusive, Eris can now be seen at
some of your local and national venues ripping the mic with metaphors. Now
Da’Poet is giving much word at WODU radio and keeping it light, upbeat, and
smooth as you ease into your Saturday! Old school soul to New School soul, its
all about the Neo Soul and now you can hear those rips, guest poets, all your
favorite Neo Soul artists and eclectic hip-hop on the Neo Soul Lounge
from 4pm – 6pm.

Fridays 12
pm – 2pm ET
Angie Pants came to ODU from Northern Virginia. While living in Northern
Virginia Pants was introduced to local and underground DC/VA/MD music. After her
first local show Pants realized how important local and underground music is to
the big label bands, and music in the media, yet it is never played. Pants set
out to spread the word of local music everywhere, even where it is not local.
Almost ever band starts out local before they get discovered. In order for a
band to be heard their music needs to be played and that needs to start
somewhere. Why not right here every Friday from 12-2pm at WODU with Angie Pants
and her Pants-less hour?!
Angie Pants believes there should be music diversity on air. The radio shouldn't
be playing the same song ever other minute and DJs shouldn't be talking their
heads off about what ever boring subject crosses their mind. This radio show
isn't mine, it is yours! So tune in or be tuned out!
Angie Pants welcomes new/ local/ and underground music of all types! To submit
music shoot me an e-mail at
Ayure001@odu.edu.
DJ Blubear
|
Tuesdays 3
pm – 5pm ET
It was a dark and rainy day when DJ BluBear descended into the WODU studios.
The wind howled and the windows shook...but maybe that was due to all the loud
music that was being played in the station. NONETHELESS, DJ BluBear made her
mark on the station when she transferred to ODU in fall of 2009, bringing with
her the fruits and atypical variety of the AVANT GARDEN, which in her first
semester won Best New Show of the Semester. Unbeknownst to the general public
and the WODU executive board, DJ BluBear laced her musical plumage with
subliminal messages, so that eventually she may take over all radio waves,
globally and otherwise. In fact, she is already beginning to reap the benefits,
and as of 2010 has been honored to take on a new position for the studio as
Assistant Music Director. DJ BluBear likens herself to The Brain from Pinky and
The Brain, however, it has been said that she is slightly cuter and more
charismatic, if only by a small percent.
DJ BluBear started her radio personality as a youngster, singing in the
shower and improvising ads and talk shows. She also used her karaoke machine to
record songs and ad lib as a DJ on cassette tapes, which she sometimes gave to
her friends. Eventually, she joined with a volunteer online radio site and was a
DJ there for two years, half of which she served as Assistant Director of the
online network, TVRN, before it ceased operations. She brings previous in-studio
experience to WODU, and is looking forward to enhancing the WODU radio
experience for hosts and audiences alike.
Dan Deacon. The Presets. Crystal Castles. Pnau. AVANT GARDEN,
from 3-5 every Tuesday, is DJ BluBear's WODU baby, and offers a continuously
fluorishing variety of most things dance-worthy. Last semester, AVANT GARDEN
specialized in electronic music, particularly industrial, trip-hop, electroclash,
and synth-pop. This semester, DJ BluBear is looking forward to a fresh season of
new music, and intends to expand the garden to include the likes of a more
acoustic, yet just as jumpy breed. Expect more femme punk, indie pop, folktronic,
and must-hear indie forefathers.
Paco, the fairly
intense yet fairly easy-going Puerto-Rican metalhead, is the Alternative and
Heavy Metal Director and the host of Zero Tolerance @ WODU Radio. Though a
military brat who has lived up and down the east coast, he is a Virginia Beach
native back home, transferring to Old Dominion (Class of 2011) from Northern
Virginia Community College in the fall of 2008.
Aside from being a very loud guy, Paco has been an avid lifelong musician,
playing numerous instruments and versed in many different styles of music--heavy
metal being the all-time favorite. He is the guitarist, songwriter, and producer
for Spanish-language heavy metal band Metralleta (www.myspace.com/metralleta).
His major goals in life are to make those Benjamins and hopes to own and operate
his own recording studio in a brutal snow-free environment.
Paco hopes to bring the diversity of heavy metal to ODU and keep his listeners
abreast of all things metal both local and worldwide. Expect exclusive
interviews with both national and local artists, giveaways, and lively metal
discussion! Don't be that lonely rocker craving their fix--tune in Tuesdays from
4 - 6 PM to the most brutal show on college radio with the craziest Spanish guy
on campus!
